The PCKT ONE Plus is a portable cartridge vaporizer that will work with any 510 cartridge under 11.5mm in diameter, like PCKT SPRK cartridges or the ever popular CCells. One of my favorite things about the ONE Plus is its dual methods of operation. It can be used with button activation, or as an auto-draw by simply inhaling on the tip, which is an awesome approach to vaping concentrates.
What’s in the Box?
The PCKT ONE Plus is available in seven different vivid colors. It comes with a micro USB charging cable and two magnetic adapters that let you use carts besides PCKT’s own SPRK cartridges. The PCKT ONE Plus connects to cartridges magnetically, so the screw-on magnetic adapters are necessary for use with non-magnetic cartridges, they should fit most cart sizes and definitely work with CCells if you’d rather use those.
Charging and First Use
It’s best to fully charge a new vape before you first use it, so I recommend following that practice with the ONE Plus. An illuminated red light next to the charging port on the bottom of the vape means it's charging, and it will turn green once it's 100% charged. The ONE Plus also has pass-through charging, meaning you can use it while it’s charging, a useful feature to ensure you’re never caught out with an unusable charge-less vape.
PCKT SPRK cartridges are filled in the same way as CCells and they can be re-used several times, but not dozens. Just warm up your distillate (I use a hair dryer) and fill up your cart, a blunt tip syringe makes this task a lot easier. Let it sit for a few hours afterwards so the distillate soaks into the SPRK’s twin ceramic heating cores. Then it’s just a matter of sliding the cartridge into the ONE Plus, where magnets will hold it securely in place.
Vape Design
The body of the PCKT ONE Plus is machined from a solid block of aluminium and feels like a very solid and well made piece of equipment in your hand. It houses two batteries that operate at a combined 660mAh for hours of battery life and features a single button for operation. It is somewhat bigger than a CCell Palm, probably due to the upgraded battery capacity, but it’s still a small device and is easily concealed in the palm of your hand. Cartridges sit safely within the vape’s body, with only the mouthpiece protruding, protecting them on all sides.
How to Use the PCKT ONE Plus
The PCKT ONE Plus is turned on or off with five clicks of the button. There are three different vaping temperatures available and these are selected with a double-click of the button. When changing the temperature the color of the light around the button will indicate your selection, blue is low (3.7W), orange is medium (4.3W) and red is high (5.1W). The option to control the power level is a nice step up from other concentrate vapes. Pressing the button once will indicate battery level, with the light being green for 100% charge, yellow for 50%, and red for 25%.
It can be operated in either auto-draw inhale activation mode or with button activation. Switch between the two options by holding the button for a second, a multicolored light means you’re in auto-draw mode and the light cycles through red, green and blue for button activation mode. Button activation is a useful option because it lets you pre-warm your oil and control how hot it gets. Get light and long hits or short and thick rips, the PCKT ONE Plus does both easily with button activation mode.
When you’re ready to take a hit the ONE Plus will vape nice and easy, with no need for a hard draw. I prefer to use button activation mode because you don’t need to prime the cart and can easily get any hit size you want.
Vapor Quality
The ONE Plus is basically an output controlled battery that powers a concentrate-filled cartridge, so the cartridge plays a huge part in how good the vapor is. With the PCKT system, you get the vapor quality of a CCell but with more control and power. PCKT SPRK Cartridges are magnetized on the business end so you don’t need to mess with the screw on adapters. They’re built well, like the ONE Plus, and they’ll last at least a few refills if you use distillate.
The flavor from SPRK Carts is nice and pure, I also find that the clean taste lasts for more refills compared to CCell TH2 cartridges, which start to lose flavor after just the second refill. The button activation and high power mode can give you as large a hit as you want, but inhale-activated hits aren’t as dense. Personally, I use it on medium power (4.3W) with button activation and thanks to the dual ceramic heating cores and powerful battery, priming the cartridge is rarely necessary.
Cost
At about $60US/$80CAD it is more expensive than a PCKT Palm or Silo, but it also boasts more power, battery life, and capabilities, so in my opinion it’s worth the extra money. The aluminium uni-body design, extra button capabilities, adjustable power levels and huge battery all make the ONE Plus stand apart from the competition. You can really feel the difference in build-quality compared to a Silo or Palm while holding the ONE Plus in your hand. It’s a bigger, more powerful vape. It even has a one-year warranty – not something that many other cartridge vapes offer.
Strengths
Since starting with inhale-activated vapes I have gradually shifted to preferring the button activated style, the draw is more consistent and predictable, there’s no waiting for the cart to “kick in” and it’s great to not need to prime. I love the looks of the PCKT ONE Plus, the design is elegant and it feels like a high quality piece of gear. I also like that it protects the cartridge on all sides and that it’s compatible with different sized carts from other manufacturers.
The simplicity and effectiveness of a cartridge system can’t be overstated. The vape and cart together are tiny and will fit in any pocket, but despite the small size, cart systems still produce many hits and have long battery life. With 660mAh of battery capacity you’ll probably need to refill your cartridge more often than you need to recharge your PCKT ONE Plus.
Weaknesses
The magnetic connection isn’t as strong as a CCell’s, it holds pretty well, but it is possible to shake the vape hard enough to disconnect the cart and there is some noticeable rattling. Also, the SPRK Cart’s mouthpiece is wide, so it’s more susceptible to dirt or lint getting inside.
PCKT ONE Plus Summary
The PCKT ONE Plus is a step up for the cartridge vaporizer experience. The various colors look great on the aluminium uni-body, it has impressive battery life, and can use different sized carts from other companies. Plus, it can work with either inhale or button activation, having both options is great.
It’s more expensive than some other cartridge vapes, but it’s also more powerful and has more features. After spending a while with the PCKT ONE Plus, I’m reaching for it more than my other cartridge vapes these days. The flavor is fantastic and I like dialing in the temp I want.
