The Flip Brick is a cool adaptation of the traditional Sticky Brick vaporizers. Customer feedback helped redesign the original model to create the Flip Brick 2019 edition which is larger and much more user-friendly. It sits flat upright to load with herbs, then half the brick flips around and attaches to 14mm/18mm receiving joints on J-hooks and water pieces. Sticky Bricks are on-demand powerhouses that deliver pristine flavor and huge hits. They’re also known for being one of the most efficient vaporizers on the market.

The original Flip Brick came out in 2017, and while it was their smallest model, it was also the most difficult to use. You could get some great hits from it, but the technique required a lot more practice and skill than any of the other Sticky Brick vapes. The new 2019 model has taken these criticisms to heart and boasts a lot of improvements.

VAPE DESIGN

The new body and intake make the experience much better

module image

The Flip Brick 2019 Edition is an on-demand, full convection, butane powered vaporizer designed to be used with a water piece or J-hook. It comes with a 14mm and 18mm male adapter to work with water tools. It’s slightly larger than the previous version, but still the smallest Sticky Brick. The body is a bit taller and the intake is longer. The new body and intake make the airpath longer, and with the included restrictor disc it makes the experience much better right out of the gate. The body is held together by magnets; the top rotates to the side to load, and it separates into two parts. To switch from loading/storage to use, just flip the side around and it’s ready to use with your favorite water piece.

HOW TO USE THE FLIP BRICK 2019

The restrictor discs are like training wheels for your Flip Brick

A new restrictor disc is pre-installed in your Flip Brick 2019 edition, and I recommend leaving it in for at least your first few bowls. The restrictor discs are like training wheels for your Flip Brick: they help you learn technique without combusting. I leave mine in as they really limit scorching and not performance.

I fill my bowl to the top, then pack it down some so the flower is away from the flame intake. Don’t tamp it too hard, just a little for spacing so it isn’t as fluffy. I also recommend starting with the included torch. Aim the tip of the blue inner flame to the edge of the intake, not inside but just on the outer area. I also like to move the flame around a little for more even heating.

When you’re just learning how to use the Flip Brick, it’s best to start your hit and go until you start seeing vapor getting thick. Now back off the flame slightly. The herb has warmed up and you can keep the flame back to maintain the vaping temperature. If you want to ramp it up, hold the flame closer. I stir between every hit with my Flip Brick. It’s easy to do with this new design and it helps you get everything out of your flower.

VAPOR QUALITY

Stronger than average effects and really large hits

It is much improved with the 2019 Flip Brick. You get solid terp flavors, and it’s pure convection so you extract a lot of flavor in that first hit. Convection also gets you stronger than average effects and really large hits. For the biggest rips, you can take the discs out if you are comfortable with your technique, but if you want to leave them in you can still get big clouds with a little practice.

EFFICIENCY

It’s crazy how many hits you can get out of a nicely packed bowl

All Sticky Brick vapes are efficient, and the Flip Brick 2019 edition carries on that tradition. It’s crazy how many hits you can get out of a nicely packed bowl, but the flavor will be mostly in the first couple pulls. The on-demand nature of Sticky Bricks is one of the reasons so many people love them. Just heat with a torch and get big clouds whenever you want. It’s a pretty low-fuss system, and there’s a little bit of a learning curve, but it is much better with the improvements made to the 2019 model.

Strengths

The primary benefit of the new model can’t be overstated. It is so much easier to use than its predecessor. The original Flip Brick put off some great hits, but the practice it took compared to the 2019 Flip Brick makes the difference like night-and-day. It’s the most affordable Brick, being less than $100, making it a very approachable first Sticky Brick for someone new to the brand or new to vaping in general. Bricks really perform. They’re on-demand, entirely convection, and very efficient with your material. Most people are surprised by how hard these things wail when they try one for the first time, and the new Flip Brick hits you right where it counts.

Weaknesses

Even though it’s much easier to use than the original Flip Brick, the new 2019 model still takes time to learn. If you’re used to using another type of Brick, you’ll need to adjust your technique a bit for this one. You also need something to use the Flip Brick on, as it’s not designed to be used natively. You’ll need a 14mm or 18mm female J-hook or water piece.

CONCLUSION

An ideal first Brick

If you’re looking for your first Brick, or you want a Sticky Brick for exclusive use through water, then the new Flip Brick 2019 is a great option. The function is improved with the longer airpath and intake, and it’s not so much more difficult to learn to use than the other Bricks. The restrictor discs really help with technique and keep you from scorching. I’m glad to see that Sticky Brick Labs listened to customer feedback and updated this model, as it’s now a much more viable introductory option to the Sticky Brick lineup.

Never used a brick, only a dynavap before. Was a little nervous because a lot of people say it's not the most beginner friendly, and that might be true if your using it with a big waterpiece. But I'm using the flip in storage mod non-flipped with a tiny Scorpion 14mm Tube and it's gotta be the most handy portable setup with the included honest torch. (It looks cool as **** and I can see my piece fill very easily and comfortable heat the flip.) Not very discrete, definitely not something your gonna hit walking down the street, but walking around the house taking water-cooled rips with an all-in-one tube and this thing is crazy convenient and super easy to handle, very secure in the hands. Easily fits in any kind of drawer, case or cabinet and the stirring tool will magnetically sit on the side of the unit. Can easily be disassembled and cleaned out. (Don't use alcohol, acids or anything on this piece, it's wood and it WILL ruin it. Also be careful of using normal cotton q-tips or cloths as fibres like to attach. Use a nice microfibre like one used for glasses lens. I got the Walnut, and right away there's a certain craftsmanship about it. Despite being told there's a wood taste, I barely taste it really personally but that could just be cause I got the Walnut one. (Some of these woods do indeed release a slight amount of resin, enough to taste until they build up a bit of a vape coating.) The magnets are a fantastic concept, this is a full on kit that comes with a relatively reliable torch and after 2 or 3 bowls of slightly combusting, I was able to dial in a technique with the restrictor disk in to get some pretty milky hits while just browning the bowl without combusting. I get about 3 - 5 hits depending on how aggressive I go. Having a tiny tube was useful for really "feeling" it but I'm sure you could easily figure out a larger piece with some patience from the get-go. Being able to see the vapor/waterpiece fill up with vape is a big part of it and ******* slowly as it heats and easing off the heat slightly while ******* harder as you see it start to milk/produce. It's really not complicated to figure out and you can easily "feel" it out with a bit of practice. Another thing you MUST DO is give it a SOLID stir every hit. The better the stir, the more patient you are, the more hits you can produce out of a bowl. And damn does it produce MILK. Just requires a bit of patience, but once you get it, it's instant gratification unlike heating a dynavap or waiting for a pax to heat up and unloading a used bowl / stirring is so much easier with the Flip Brick and it's modular design. You can just hit bowl after bowl after bowl if that's what you want to do. Definitely happy with this thing. Has replaced my at-home use of my dynavap entirely and I really like this unit's smaller size with a tiny tube. Hits very much like a heavy-hitting bong, the convection is fantastic.

Love it

Got my new Flip brick two days ago thanks for the quick turnaround as usual at Vape North and I haven’t put it down yet. It hits great and is smooth as silk dry thru a j- hook. As a long time vaper mostly Solo 2 and dynvap m. The learning curve was fairly short mostly just figuring out how aggressive to be with the torch, it’s so easy to check after each hit I was getting big hits right away with nice golden brown AVB. I find the flavour and the smoothness far superior to the Dynavap M. I normally vape thru water but ordered a j-hook just cause it was on sale and it fits the Flip Brick like a glove. It gives smooth heavy hits with full flavour and is a comfortable distance from your face to see the flame intake on the brick. The reviews said this was the cheapest brick to buy but the hardest to learn. So far it’s been easy and comfortable to use with great hits best $100 I spent this year.

Superb

Wow, like going from an automatic Chrysler minivan (og Airizer) to a stick shift Ferrari. Yeah, you'll stall and burn the clutch a few times but maaaaaan what a rush when you nail it. Tried it through water with the restrictor disc but free-flowing with a j-hook wins. Still cools the vapor beautifully but preserves more of the flavor and wow can it rip! Easier to modulate the heat from the torch, too. Finally, the ergonomics and esthetics are astonishingly pleasant with a j-hook. Cradles beautifully in the palm with luxuriously tactile wood and glass surfaces. My new daily doser.

Hot damn. those are some milky hits

Finally a vape that comes close to the feeling of my big ol' bong from back in the day. With the right technique, this could easily be my new go-to herb device. If I could somehow use an electric heater, I'd be sold 10x over.

Amazing.

I will not lie to you and say that I did not combust at all with this little guy when first learning how to use it. However it was only three times in the first month and It was mostly me getting greedy and trying to fully extract in one hit. The flip brick provides the most flavourful vapour I've had and the biggest hits I've ever taken. It is a bit more work to get my herb fully toasted compared to a dynavap but the quality of the vapour and the size of the possible hits makes it a must have imo. Not to mention on demand vapour is always awesome !
